Arriving in December 2023, the Nubia Z60 Ultra was among the first smartphones equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU. Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S24 series the following month, including the marginally faster Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chipset.
Samsung and Qualcomm may have terminated their exclusivity agreement, or the San Diego chipmaker may have just produced enough of the speedier chipset to make it accessible to other manufacturers. It was obvious that a reband was necessary, and the song is now referred to as the "Leading version" instead of "for Galaxy."
Nubia seized the opportunity with speed, relaunching the Z60 Ultra with an overclocked processor and many additional enhancements, chief among them being a slew of AI functions. We have the phone, which goes by the name Nubia Z60 Ultra Leading Version, for evaluation.
The design remains largely the same; we are grateful to have received the Leading Version in Silver color instead of the previous model, which we have already evaluated since it would have been difficult to tell the difference between the two phones.
It does include an 80W charger, a red USB-C cable, and a hard plastic case for protection in the box.
The Leading version has a 50 MP ultra-wide camera, a 64 MP telephoto lens with an equivalent focal length of 85 mm, and the same 50 MP 35mm primary camera. However, it also claims to have enhanced the overall performance of the 12 MP selfie camera located underneath the display, in addition to the primary camera's optics.
A 3.4 GHz Cortex-X4 core powers the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU, while the Adreno 750 GPU operates at 1 GHz rather than 900 MHz.
We'll try to find out how much of an impact these have.
The NeoVision AI camera functions, such as AI Blur, AI removal, and AI sky color shift, will also be tested.
After reviewing the Nubia Z60 Ultra Leading Version, we'll be able to determine whether or not the phone is worth its $599 starting price.
