The newest 50MP OV50M40 sensor from OmniVision is designed to be used in front-facing, ultra-wide, telephoto, or primary smartphone cameras. With a 1/2.88-inch optical format, the 0.61µm pixel CMOS image sensor has 4-cell binning, video HDR, an always-on motion detection capability, and ultra-low power consumption.

In both binned and full resolution modes, it features phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and staggered HDR and single exposure dual analog gain (DAG) HDR technologies. It provides 2x or 3x high-quality tele-crop zoom choices.

The PureCel Plus-S stacked-die technology from OmniVision, which powers the OV50M40, supports full 50MP resolution photos at 12 frames per second and 12.5MP images at 60 frames per second. It can also record 1080p at 120 frames per second and 4K at 60 frames per second.

OEMs can sample the OV50M40 in Q3, 2024, and major production is scheduled for Q4.
