Apple is reportedly planning to replace the iPhone Plus model, which will be discontinued starting next year, with the iPhone 17 Slim. This has been predicted for some time. As the name suggests, it should be incredibly thin—at least for an iPhone—just as Apple's most recent iPad Pro is the smallest tablet the company has ever made.

Today, seasoned industry analyst and source of Apple-related rumors Ming-Chi Kuo disclosed further information on the iPhone 17 Slim. According to him, the iPhone Plus is being discontinued since it barely accounts for 5% to 10% of all iPhone shipments at this time.

The A19 processor (note that the iPhone 17 Pro versions will utilize the A19 Pro) powers the 6.6" screen of the iPhone 17 Slim, which has a resolution of 1260x2740. Its metal frame will be made of an alloy with less titanium than the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, and its Dynamic Island area will be comparable to that of the existing iPhone models.

Along with the much-anticipated in-house 5G technology from Apple, the iPhone 17 Slim is said to include a single rear camera. Though Kuo emphasizes that Apple would "emphasize innovative form factor design" with the iPhone 17 Slim "rather than competing on hardware specifications," that represents a significant step backward in terms of current mobile trends. To put it another way, this one will be all about the looks. Put style before content, if you will.

Although it just has to account for 15% of all new iPhone sales to be successful, that would still make it two or three times more popular than the model it is replacing, it is still an intriguing risk on Apple's side that could just pay off.
