According to a rather bizarre report that surfaced today from Samsung's home country of Korea, the firm is considering utilizing MediaTek Dimensity processors for the Galaxy S25 series, which is scheduled for release in January of next year.

Not just any MediaTek processors, though, but MediaTek Dimensity chips, most likely the Dimensity 9400, in addition to the Exynos 2500 from Samsung and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Thus, the next flagship family from the Korean brand may include three distinct SoCs in different countries, if this works out—and that's a big if.

This is by no means a guarantee, though, since the rumors of today simply suggest that the firm may do this, not that it has already made up its mind. This move was motivated by the not-so-great yields on the Exynos 2500 and Qualcomm's often-rumored price increase for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 may cost as much as $260 per unit, but the 8 Gen 3 is believed to cost between $190 and $200. Currently, the Exynos 2500 yield is roughly 40%, but 60% is required to begin mass manufacturing. Samsung still intends to make improvements by August.

In light of Qualcomm's next high-end processor's price and the sustained poor Exynos yields, Samsung might benefit from including MediaTek in the mix, or at the absolute least, try to use that threat as a bargaining chip with Qualcomm.
