Samsung has introduced its first 60TB SSD. Samsung is a global leader in memory and storage technology. This high-capacity SSD is not intended for consumer usage; rather, it is meant for use in enterprises. Additionally, the business claims that with its new controller, 120TB SSDs may be produced.

Samsung PM1743 is a 61.44TB SSD

Even though Samsung is a very well-known SSD manufacturer, its SSDs can only store 32TB at one time. But today, the business is offering a 61.44TB version of the PM1743 SSD (via Blocks & Files). This 60TB class SSD will go up against the D5-P5336 from Solidigm and the 60TB class corporate SSDs from Western Digital.

Samsung's 176-layer 7th Generation V-NAND (3D NAND) QLC memory and a custom controller are used in the PM1743. It can write at up to 2.0 GBps and sequentially read at 7.2 GBps. Its IOPS for random reads and writes is 1,600,000. It can withstand 0.26 drive writes per day (DWPD) for five years.

There are two form factors for this new SSD that will be available for servers: PCIe 4.0 x4 and U.2. Additionally, it will be accessible in E3.S for high-density computer systems using the PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. Its cost and energy use statistics are yet unknown. Reportedly, comparable drives cost about $7,000.

Due to the fact that its main competitors, SK Hynix, Micron, and Kioxia, have not yet released SSDs in the 60TB class, Samsung will have little competition in the market.
