The new game recording functionality from Valve is coming to Steam Deck. The most recent beta update, which is being sent to all Steam Deck and Steam users, includes this capability.

Up until recently, Steam Deck lacked a native game recorder feature. The new function allows users to program the length and storage limit, beyond which the gadget will begin recording continuously in the background. Alternatively, you may decide to use a preset hotkey to manually begin and stop recording. You may go back in time and examine a crucial moment you could have missed with the use of a replay tool.

Editing and sharing tools are also included with the game recorder. Users can crop recorded video to just include the most important parts, and the share tool allows you to transmit the movie to a friend or your own computer or mobile device.

To make the most of the clips, Valve will also allow developers to further personalize them. When significant events occur, games can alert Steam so that they are noted on the video timeline that has been captured. To make the timeline simpler to understand, games can also alter their design to indicate whether the player is in the menu, lobby, or gaming. The game will allow users to navigate through the highlighted events in the recordings.

As the built-in video encoder on the GPU is intended to function with the recording capability, you shouldn't see any performance drops when playing.

Users using the Steam client on a desktop computer can also access this functionality. You must allow the beta update in the Beta Participation setting in your Steam settings, regardless of whether you are on the desktop or the Steam Deck.
