That certainly didn't take long. Xiaomi announced the launching date of the road-going SU7 Ultra in the first half of 2025, following the debut of its most ambitious EV prototype yet. This high-performance version, which builds on the phenomenal success of the company's first SU7 model, promises to provide a genuinely remarkable driving experience on the racetrack as well as on open roads.
The astounding specs of the SU7 Ultra Concept were unveiled last week. The CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, states that the majority of the parts should remain in the manufacturing model. With its identical chassis, triple motor setup, and battery pack, the Ultra is expected to have performance comparable to that of the prototype.
The SU7 Ultra Concept is equipped with a potent trio of in-house designed electric motors: one V6 motor powers the front wheels, while two V8 motors attached in the back spin an amazing 27,200 rpm. With a total power output of 1,548 horsepower, this setup can accelerate the car from zero to a hundred kilometers per hour in a startling 1.97 seconds and from a complete stop to 200 kilometers per hour in a blink-and-you-miss-it 5.98 seconds. When configured in concept, the peak speed of the SU7 Ultra is more than 350 km/h.
Beyond just power, the Ultra performs exceptionally well. It has the Qilin II battery from CATL, which is well-known for its ability to drain quickly and supports a 5.2C charging multiplier. For a car with this kind of horsepower, the Ultra's braking system—which has forged six-piston calipers all around—offers remarkable stopping capability. Together with the mechanical brakes, Xiaomi says the re-calibrated regenerative braking of the electric motors can provide an intestinal-rearranging 2.36g of stopping power.
Lei Jun stated that although the prototype had a fully carbon fiber body, this feature will not be present in the commercial model to keep the price point more reasonable. This decision, however, strikes a compromise between price and functionality, which may make the SU7 Ultra a more appealing choice for a wider spectrum of customers. Furthermore, it makes room for aftermarket goods.
Regarding the million-dollar question, the precise cost is yet unknown. Lei Jun promises that the price difference between the SU7 Ultra and the current SU7 models—which start at RMB 215,900 ($29,700) for the ordinary version—will be negligible. Presumably, he meant "slightly more" costly than the RMB 299,000 (about €38,700) version of the SU7 Max.
It's interesting to note that the Xiaomi SU7 tri-motor variant, known as FE, was disclosed in one of the early pricing leaks. According to the specification sheet, the vehicle could produce 1,074 horsepower and reach 100 km/h in 1.98 seconds. The cost of the model was RMB 339,000, or around €43,800. It will be fascinating to see if the road-going Ultra reduces power and if the pricing matches the rumors. To put things in context, the Zeekr 001 FR, the SU7 Ultra's closest rival, costs little more than €130,000 at the moment of exchange and has four motors totaling 1,265 horsepower.
